Strange issue with lock files. Database is split front end with

I want to count how many items entered today, so I used following query.
   strSQL = "SELECT * FROM Sales WHERE Sale_Date = " & Me!Sale_Date
Me!Sale_Date is a text box on the form with today's date.
My problem is this query could not find any record even though they exist.

Just wondering. If a database has already been compacted and you try and
compact it again would that give the Access death screen?
It seems that most times I try and compact that's what I get. I did a

I am having a hard time wrapping my head around how to do this task in

in a table. If I do any typing or formmatting in this control I run an event
procedure of On Updated     RunCommand acCmdSaveRecord
I then need to get back to the main form. I can use Combo boxes, Option
