He has a nice long list. I wonder how many of them provide source code
and for what added cost??

If you provide him with that information, he might well want to add it
to his page.

I alread looked at this list -- it's pretty old.
Most of the software listed hasn't been updated for a year or two. The
demos I downloaded were'nt much help
That's why I asked if anyone has personal experience

Have any of you tried to export into Quickbooks? We have had quite a
few requests from clients and get many inquiries from potential ones
to get data from our lodge software into Quickbooks. Our application
basically just tracks revenues. I have no idea how to do this.
I have also thought about offering a 3rd party accounting system as a
module they could purchase (would have to be customizable most
likely), but QB seems to be the way to go (although we aren't big fans
of QB, especially because of their expensive and required web only
updates, etc....).
I will certainly check into the ones listed at this web site. I don't
see any advertised any more in Access Advisor (just FMS tools).

Yes I have experimented with Quickbooks Pro
The problem is, like Peachtree, it gets me 80% there and there is no way to
customize some of the forms or add some of the fields I need in invoices,
quotes, etc.
Like Peachtree, Quickbooks appears to be set up for a products (inventory).
I sell services and need a system the recognzies this and allows me to
customize it.

QB provides for the ability to import transactions. See the help file
"importing data, IIF file format" for information on the file format.
However the client needs to run the File - Import menu option from QB.

That's one option, but QB now promotes a more direct xml-based option.
They have an SDK with the details.

The SDK for Quicbooks works well and is a free download from the Intuit
site.
An excellent product for working with Peachtree data can be found at:
http://www.multiwareinc.com/pawcom.htm
I have found both to be excellent for getting data in and out of Access
and/or Excel.

Tom,
Thanks for the info.
When you say direct, does that mean the end-user does not need to import the
file into QB?
If all they are doing is changing the format of the import file from IIF to
XML, from an end-user point of view, why would they care?

Correct.
There is more to it than that. Happy studying the SDK.

Hi Paul !
How do you do? tell me what do you want to customize in Peachtree
(which is not available in it). I am programmer of VB, ACCESS and
EXCEL.
Take care Bye
MASQ.

Basically I resell services at an hourly or daily rate to large defense
contractors.
I need the customize invoices to show dates and hours worked.
I need to customize the time tracking feature so I can pay subcontractors
based on the time entered in the time tickets.
I need to have additional fields in the inventory tracking that are unique
to labor, not material.
I used to be a programmer (a long time ago) and have written a few VBA
access programs, so I figured Access would do what I want.
My evaluation of some of the commercial MS access programs ( People's
Choice, etc.) doesn't impress me so far.
I also looked at Microsoft's newsmall business accounting. Very
disappointing. It's a warmed over version of Quickbooks

Paul,
Don't know how you are keeping track of your time tickets but why not
A.) Build an application in Access to keep track of the time.
B.) Use pawcom (for Peachtree) to post the time/billing data from
Access to Peachtree.
This way you can use all the accounting features of Peachtree but
customize your billing in the Access application.
Paul - 27 Aug 2005 23:51 GMT
I thought of that, but it requires me to fool around with 2 program.
And it doesn't help the poor choice of fields for incoices and payments to
subs
I was trying to find an canned Access program that was close and provided
the source code so I can create the forms and reports I need
