I have created a pretty straight forward database for one of the
departments where I work. It's based on a design I used sucessfully for
my own department so all of the components are  tried and tested.
Everything was working swimingly until now. Whenever a user opens the
databse, it will only open in read only format. Does anyone have any
idea why this might be happening, also how do I reverse this?

Thanks in anticipation!

This may seem a little obvious but did you by chance build the database on
one computer and then either copy it over to the network via a CD or some
other method?  Sometimes when you copy a DB over I have found the
"Read-Only" attribute gets set on the file.  Right mouse click over the file
wherever it's located on your network, select "properties" and check to make
sure both the Read-Only and Archive attributes have been cleared.

Hope this helps.

Mike,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I built it on my PC then transferred it over
the network from my own files to theirs. I did check the properties and
the Read-Only attribute was definitely un-checked, can't remember about
the Archive one though, will double check that one on Monday.

Get to the database window.  Select File/DatabaseProperties.  You may
have to remove the RO attribute in Explorer.  Or you may have a command
line option in the shortcut to open as RO.

Many thanks Salad! I'll give that a go on Monday. Any idea why this
might have happened in the first place? Our IT department won't support
anything they didn't have a hand in, so anything that prevents it
happening again would be a bonus.

Is it possible that your database is now located in a directory where users
don't have all permissions?
To effectively run an Access database in a shared environment, users must
have read, modify, create and delete permissions on that folder.
