I have a file from micro 07, but I cannot open/decode with mic03

I had microsoft 2007 but could not get on with it,  as my university don't
have it.
So I transferred all my files/work over to microsoft 2003 now it's all coded
and I can't read it, help, my computer skills are 'pants' I need help please.
