My son's computer will just shut down in the middle of homework.  When
he restarts all files and shortcuts are gone from the desktop.  They
are not in the recyle bin.  He uses an onscreen keyboard.  At first we
thought that could be causing the problem so we switched to a
different one.  Still the same problem.  In fact it has happened on 3
school issued computers.  Right now they think he is doing
this...which he definitely is not.  I need to figure out why this is
happening.  Please help us.

You should probably post to the applicable newsgroup because this one is for
Microsoft Access (database program).  But, I'll give you some things to think
about:

1. It could be a virus, so you should check it out with anti-virus software
and if you don't have any you should get some immediately.

2. You didn't say whether this was a laptop or a desktop computer, but if it
is a desktop computer, the power supply could be going out.  I've had that
issue before when my power supply was in its death throes.
