All of the sudden I cont open a database. I now it loaded because it compacts
and repairs when it closes. However I can see the databse unless I hold the
shift key. Anyone know whats up?

In Tools/Startup there is a check box that sets whether to show the database
window or not.

First check to see if you have a macro named Autoexec.  If so, then check it
for things like minimize.
Second click on menu TOOLS - Startup and see what is there.

Try pressing the F11 key to display the database window. You can use Tools...
Startup and check or uncheck the "Display Database Window" checkbox; most
developers will have this unchecked in a production database so the users see
only the switchboard and control forms that they have provided.
