LogMeIn is a an excellent VPN tool. I use it with one of my clients to log
in to his server and upload updates.

ahhh.... I was reading it as log-mein. Must have been thinking of Lo-mein
noodles!
So not spyware, but still off topic.

As Homer might say, "Log-mein, mmmmmmm."

VPN? It's just a repackaged version of Remote Desktop -- no VPN that
I know of (though it does use HTTPS, which provides a certain amount
of protection, but not nearly as much as a VPN). The only advantage
of it over plain Remote Desktop is that it resolves the dynamic IP
problem as well as the issue of operating from the Internet into a
network using NAT (i.e., non-routable IP addresses). Those are very
useful things, but it's really not any different from GoToMyPC.com
and a host of other such offerings that are just thin wrappers
around Remote Desktop. I'm surprised that MS didn't bundle such a
service into Vista and tie it in with WindowsLive.com.

Thanks for the corection on the term VPN. I should taken a couple more
minutes to think of the proper term.
I do like it over some of the other services I've tried because of the
interface.

It does work pretty well, yes, as one of my clients uses it. They
have massively improved it in the last 6 months or so, though.
