Access 2007

Hopfully, there is a way to change this default directory.

The last used directory, does not have the permanency I would like
but, is much better than MS's attempt to force all users to begin in a
meaningless User directory to 99% of users.

Click the round Office logo button in the upper left corner of the Access
window, then the Access Options button near the lower right corner of the
drop-down menu. This will display the Access Options dialog box, and one of
the options there is 'Default database folder'.

Thanks Brendan,

That option for the 'Default database folder' was changed.

I am refering to the "Get External Data" default directory

In my tests, the folder I chose as the default database folder was also used
when I selected Get External Data. Did that not happen for you?

Some further testing indicates that you may need to close and re-open Access
before the change sticks.

Ah Ha!

If I choose import "Access" then I get my default choice.

If I choose import "Excel" then i get C:\Users\"my name"\Documents\.
is there a Registry entry which could be made to change it to my
 default directory?

Probably, but I'm afraid I don't know which entry that would be.

I tried changing the default folder within Excel, to see if Access would use
that folder, but apparently it does not.
