Hmmm, when I have some time I have to take a closer look at this. I'm
a book collector. I like reading, and owning, complete series. But
I can never remember which ones I got from the library(ies) to read
and which ones I own. So what I really want to do is to dump in all
my books, using the ISBN bar code, into a database, have the database
look up the associated data.
Then I want to flag my favourite authors. All five or eight hundred.
<smile>. Then download all the books by those authors. But ignore the
big print, audio, cartoon, whatever versions. Then tell me what I
don't have.
Then that table of wanted books I put in my Palm so now when I'm at a
used book store I go tap, tap, tap, and I know if I have that book or
not.

Hi Tony:
Well, you might want to look at the Z39.50 demo I have - it shows how to use
an ISBN from within Access to download book info from, say, Library of
Congress. I've got a simple demo working that does the same thing with
Amazon's Web services - but it is just barely working at the moment. A A2003
version can display the book cover image using the Web Browser control. I
also have an A2007 version that can store the image as an attachment. Check
Clint Covington's blog for a professional demo of A2007 and Amazon..
http://www.librarything.com/ is interesting as well - if your Palm does the
'net it might be something you could use...
Cheers!
Fred
P.S. I'm off on vacation today so will not be able to respond for a couple
