Connection issues using hosted SLQ server

I am currently using Access.adp front end with my SQL database on a hosted
server. Recently I have been experiencing an increasing number of lost
connections and long post backs. I have verified that I am not losing my
internet connection when this happens. When I advised my hosting provider
about the issue they said that they do not recommend using Access to work
with Microsoft SQL through their hosted site. Has anyone heard of this
before? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

This is one of the weaknesses of ADP: it doesn't try to reconnect
automatically when a connection breaks down. Many things could break a
connection, for example the SQL-Server is on a cluster and the cluster
switched the active node for whatever reason or there is a maximum number of
connections on the SQL-Server and this limit has been reached.

If your hosting provider can give you a remote access through Terminal
Server, I would look into using this solution if I were you.

Thanks Sylvain,

I will definitely inquire about accessing through Terminal Server.

We have been considering installing our own server. Do you think that we
would experience similar connection issues using ADP with an in house server?

With your own in house server? Not to my knowledge but like always, I might
be wrong.

You could also have your own installation of TS or of a similar product like
Thinsoft (www.thinsoftinc.com).

There are also other possibilities like using ASP.NET or WinForms.NET.

yeah I've not had connection problems with ADP before

i love it; it allows me to connect into a client's server without going to a
different desktop environment

i've done it with all 3 versions; and im never going to 2007 because
im never going to buy another M$ product in my life

I've used all three versions

but I'll never go to 2007 since I sure as hell am never going to buy another
MS product

when those bitches stfu and start fixing bugs-- and stop introducing new
features like XML --- GAG---

that's when I'll stop fighting

when MS throws away the internet and rewrites all of their line of business
apps on ADP -- that is when I'll stop fighting
