Access DB on untrusted site

Hi,

I'm trying to open an access database on another PC in my local network and
I get this message:
Microsoft Access cannot open this file
This file is outside your intranet or on an untrusted site. Microsoft Access
will not open the file due to potential security problems.

The DB is located on a my N: drive, which is a mapped drive in my local
network, mapped to \\192.168.1.240\E

I've tried adding both N:\ and \\192.168.1.240\ to the local intranet zone
under the security settings in IE and it does not help.
A possible weird thing is that when I add N:\ to the local intranet zone, it
shows up as file://192.168.1.240\ and not N:\

I can open the database from \\192.168.1.240\e so maybe this gives a clue.
While this is a work around, I still need to fix the problem.

Sorry if this is the wrong group to ask this question, I didn't know where
else to start. Please let me know if there's a better group to ask.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Phil

Thanks Tom.

This seems to be the relevant bit:
This workaround does not work for UNC or file:// addresses that use an IP
address. For example, Internet Explorer identifies \\157.54.100.101\share, or
file://157.54.100.101/share, as being in the Internet zone, even if you add
the appropriate IP address range to the Local Intranet Sites list. In this
case, you must use a file:// URL that has the NetBIOS name (for example,
\\server\share) for the site to be identified in the Local intranet zone.

So it looks like I need to figure out how to set up the shared drive using a
netbios name, rather than an IP address.
What I don't understand is why it works perfectly on my Laptop which has
been running XP for years.

Thanks,
Phil
