Sorry for the delay in my reply, but to answer your question(s), I was
reading "Designing the Star Schema Database"
(http://www.ciobriefings.com/whitepapers/StarSchema.asp), and "The Data
Warehouse Toolkit (Ralph Kimball)... I wanted to apply some of the
techniques I've read about to an application I am designing...

Fact table is not specific to MS Access. This a dimensional modelling
attribute.
