I have a new laptop that came loaded with Windows XP. I
loaded my Access 97 (several times now), making sure all
options were selected; however, when I'm in table design
mode and choose Lookup Wizard, it doesn't work. I don't
get the next dialog box, I receive a .dll error.

Thanks.

Consider yourself lucky. Just don't use this malicious, mendacious and
mean-spirited wizard at all.

Simply create the new table of things you want to look up, create a FK
field in the old table and make the relationship between them. Takes less
than thirty seconds and your forms and queries will love you for it for
ever.
