Jet 4.0 Service Pack installation

I am trying to install Jet 4.0 SP 8 on my Windows 2000
machine but the installation returns an error telling me I
don't have a recent enough version to install the hot fix.
It says I must have at least SP 3.0 installed. However,
when I check the version of MSJet40.dll on my system, it
shows version 4..0.4431.3, indicating SP 5. Any idea why
the SP 8 installer might not be detecting my current
version correctly?

Are you sure it isn't saying you need Windows 2000 SP3 minimum?

it render your db useless because I have seen complaints
that their db's start behaving weird after this patch is
applied. Meaning that when they set the security levels
low db behavior does not function the way they are used to
or expect. What are your thoughts. Thanks in advance for

I believe they are specifying Windows 2000 Service Pack 3
We ran into this when installing Microsoft Access 2003.
