Unable to install Office 2007 - Error 1606

Hi.

I have Vista Home Basic on my laptop and i tried installing Office 2007 Pro
on it, and was confronted by the Error:

Error 1606.Could not access network location %PUBLIC%\Desktop.

I googled up Error 1606, and I guess its something to do with the default
locations as set by Windows. I did find a couple solutions that involved
editing the registry, but none of them referred to Vista, they were all XP or
2000.

Are there any workarounds for this problem? I really need to get Office
installed, my deadlines are nearing, and my Office is refusing to install.

Any help will be VERY greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

This is just a shot in the dark, because I would think that the Office
install would already run as admin, but when you put the CD in, cancel the
install and then, using Windows Explorer, go to the SETUP.EXE file on the CD
and right-click and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

Hey bob!

No luck! I cancelled the setup and using Explorer ran it as an
Administrator. I started the install for Word 2007, the installer began and
just about midway, boom :

Error 1606.Could not access network location %PUBLIC%\Desktop.

Any clues? I am thoroughly confused and REALLy need that software installed!
You got any more suggestions?

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

Nope, I'm at a loss on that one.  Sorry.
