Can't start Access after installing Update for Access 2002

Group:

I installed the Update For Access 2002 (DB904018): ASACCESSop and now can't
start Access, or the applications I created that run under the Microsoft
Access 2002 Runtime. My operating system is Windows XP Home.

When I try to start Access 2002 (or any .mdb or .mde file) the Windows
Installer dialog box pops up and says "Preparing to Install", then the
dialog box dissappears and nothing else happens.

I have tried to unistall the Update For Access 2002; however, the Add /
Remove programs won't let you uninstall this update. I have also tried to
use a restore point just before this Update was installed, and that doesn't
work either.

Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
BobV

You might want to uninstall Access and reinstall it.
If you can't uninstall it either, there is a Microsoft utility called
Windows Installer Cleanup that can be used to remove it.
I had a trial version of Office 2003 that had expired, so I decided to
uninstall it, but I could not because it didn't come with a CD.
I used the utilty and it worked!
You can find the utility here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Good luck,
Ragnar
