Does anyone have any information on the issues / ability to
install Access 2007 concurrently with previous versions? I
presently run 97 and 2003 on the same machine and would like
to find out if it will be possible to install 2007 as well.
I did manage to download the final release yesterday through
my MSDN subscription but I haven't found any info to date on
this issue.

Hi Gary,

Nice to see you here again.

I personally haven't had a chance yet to test Access 2007 installation issues alongside other Access
versions. I do know other people that ran this scenario using various beta builds and there didn't
seem to be a lot of problems other than the following:

- When you switch from opening one Access version to another, the wait time with 2007 is longer than
any previously shown. You'll see a "Installing...." message for possibly as long as a minute (or
longer depending upon your processor speed) while Access 2007 changes the necessary registry
entries.

I'll install the RTM 2007 build alongside my other versions eventually, but I just haven't had a
chance to do that quite yet. If you try this please feel free to post back in the newsgroups or to
me personally with any problems/issues.

Hi Jeff,

Great to hear from you too! Thanks for being the first one
to respond to my inquiry.

That's very encouraging that you aren't aware of any major
issues. Hmmm. If it takes a while on startup to change the
registry each time it opens, I wonder if it is making
changes back on close? That's probably wishful thinking.
I'll probably delve into the setup routine a ways and see
what options I get when it detects the previous versions
being there. I would hope that there is a KB article on the
correct process and order of installation as this was an
issue with some earlier versions, but it may be too early
yet.

I did find this TechNet article that has some info on the
subject since I posted here if anyone is interested:

Hi Gary,

You'll only see the "installing" wait time when you are switching back and forth between Access 2007
and other versions. So if you open Access 2007, close it, and then reopen 2007, you won't see any
delay at all. It's only when you open a previous version and then come back to 2007. Make sense?

Although the usual recommendation is to install Access versions in version order, I do know people
that have installed out of sequence and have had no significant issues. Personally, I prefer to
install one version, run Office Update to get everything up to date, and then install the next, and
so on. Just be sure to always use the Custom install option and select to not remove previous
versions.

You'll find a lot more information on Access 2007 on my new site if you're curious:
