If your computer works after you re-register the file DAO350.dll but then
fails after you reboot your computer then there must be something on your
machine that is causing DAO350.dll to unregister.
(If the above is happening -- maybe I missed interperted you last reply)
Perform the following:
- WinXP computer right?
- Click Start > Run
- In the open run command line type msconfig
- Click OK
- Select the "Services" tab in the msconfig utility
- For the box that says "Hide ALL Microsoft Services" place a check mark
there
- This causes only Non-Microsoft Services to display
- Uncheck each item in the Services tab (non-Microsoft Services)
- Click Apply then Close
- This will force your computer to restart
- After your computer restarts try running Microsoft Access (expecting
still to fail)
- Register DAO350.dll (as before)
- Re-Test Microsoft Access
- Restart your computer and re-test Microsoft Access (should run fine)
In the event Microsoft Access works then you can narrow down what
application maybe unregistering DAO350.dll by doing the following:
+ Reopen the MsConfig utility (see above instructions)
+ Select the Services tab and check "Hide ALL Microsoft Services"
+ Check only one non-Microsoft Service and click Apply and Close
+ Computer restarts. Re-Test Microsoft Access.
+ If Microsoft Access fails (DAO350.dll becomes unregistered) then
you've found the culprit
+ If Microsoft Access still works repeat select another non-Microsoft
Service
I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please
respond back to this posting.

I followed you latest instructions several times with the same
results. My computer still shuts down when I try to use Access 97. In
addition I tried starting the machine in the Diagnostic Startup mode
again with the same results.
What is your next suggestion?
This program has always been a bit flaky in comparison to Access
2.0....
Would the latest and greatest version of Access be advisable.
On another thread what is the least expensive program currently
available to compile an Access MDB into a stand alone executable?

No program exists which can compile an Access MDB into a stand-alone
executable.
You can get a run-time version of Access that you can distribute along with
your application. If the user doesn't already have Access, they can install
the run-time, which will let them use your application (but not change its
design). Using the run-time, though, doesn't change the application in any
way, shape or form.

Hi Mike, just wondering if you ever found the cause. I do contract Access
database development and am currently experiencing this issue with an Access
97 database. I will eventually be converting it to Access 2002, but it is a
large company going through a buyout and it may take sometime before
everything is signed off in order for me to convert.
As for now though, I am EXTREMELY curious as to this cause. I am convinced
it is not a hardware issue as it has happened to not only me, but several of
the users... while working in the database, the PC just totally powers off
with no warning of any kind!
There is VERY little VBA code used in the database, only one Function that
creates an Audit trail of data changes. When it originally happened to me, I
thought it may have something to do with having two versions of Access loaded
on my PC (I know it's not recommended, but I've done it before with no
problems)...however, then I found out it was happening to others who only
have one version of Access loaded.
While browsing through this site I saw others who have had the problem also,
and I found no resolution posted. I know this is an old "thread", but hoping
to find some response...
Thanks in advance...
