cannot create new tables in Access 97

I have been using Office 97 for years. Some days ago I
installed Access-2002 in a separate directory, without de-
installing Access 97. And now I see that I cannot create
new tables in Access 97, even if I create quite a new and
empty database. Well, I can copy tables, import tables
from other mdb-files, use "Create Table"-instruction in
Basic-procedures. But the button "New Table" just does not
react. Maybe, something was changed in the Registry after
Access-2002 installation?

Hi,

Try reinstalling Access 97 as follows:

- locate all instances of MsAccess.exe
- rename them to MsAccess.exeOLD with the exception of MsAccess 2002 rename
it to MsAccess.exe2002
- rename the file Hatten.ttf to Hatten.ttfOLD
- Open the Control Panel and open Add/Programs
- Select Access 97 (or Office 97 which ever it is) and select Change
- Choose reinstall

Very possible that your install of 2002 stepped on 97.

I hope this helps!  If you have additional questions on this topic, please
respond back to this posting.

Dear Eric, thank you so much for your quick response. I
tried to follow your advice, but encountered,
unfortunately, another problem: Microsoft Office 97 Setup
does not want now to delete Access! Something happens, if
I try to do it, the program is just blocked, and I can
terminate it, only using Task Manager. I can delete all
other components, but not Access-97. I can also repeat the
previous installation of Office 97, in this case the
problem remains. So that, I deleted Office-XP (Access-2002
was the part of it) completely, but it did not help.
Thank you in advance for any more ideas!
Juri Vlasov, Vienna.

Hi,

I take it that you are unable to uninstall Access 97 (via Add/Remove
programs).  If that is the case then try using the utility Eraser97.exe,
see: OFF97: Utility to Completely Remove Remaining Office 97 Files and
Registry Entries

My two cents worth...

I would make sure Access/Office 2002 is installed and
behaving properly.  Uninstall Access 97, refering to
Knowledge Base Article 163997 and then reinstall Access 97.

Do NOT try to use any part of Office 97 after you
completely remove Access 97 will cause problems AND reboot
between each install and reinstall and uninstall.  Might
take some time but might be worth it!
