A colleague was working with Microsoft Access when his computer crashed.  The
database he was working with lost security and administration rights.  That
is, the database does not require user authenication(login was required
before his comptuer crashed) as well as the administrator is displayed as
'unknown'.

Any suggestions?

I doubt the mdb has lost the permissions.

The symptoms you describe suggest he isn't using the correct mdw file.

Does he use a desktop shortcut to start the mdb?  If not then he was likely
joined by default to the secure workgroup file that has the owner in it.

However, it is also likely that it was never secured properly since he's now
getting in via the standard system.mdw workgroup file.
