Queries which had been working suddenly started halting with "Invalid
argument. (Error 3001)".  These are generally Select Queries, often
single-table.  When run by double clicking on the object name, the data is
displayed for a moment, then the error message and all fields turn to #NAME.

It sounds like a corruption problem. Try creating a new database &
importing all the objects from the old one into the new one.
