I have a secure Access 97 database that I am going to convert to Access 2003.

Will the new 2003 database be secure?

What happens to the old Access 97 .mdw file?

Does it need to be converted to an Access 2003 .mdw file or are they all
interchangeable?

Does Access 2003 have it's own Workgroup Administrator?

Thanks a lot if you have answers!!

As long as you use the 97 version mdw, and log in as a member of the Admins
group, you'll be able to convert it.  Technically a 2003 mdb can use the 97
mdw.

Nothing.  Your new mdb will still need to use this mdw file.

Technically, you don't have to convert it, however it is recommended that
you unsecure it in 97, convert the unsecured mdb, and then reapply security
in 2003.

You'll find a couple of utilities at http://www.daiglenet.com/MSAccess.htm
to script out the permissions.

In 2003, you'll find the workgroup administrator is now built-in to Access -
you'll find it in the Tools, Security sub-menu.
