I'm a newbie, and am designing a database (NOTE:not a trained software person...learning from texts) that would benefit from replication (multiple data entry sites, not connected by LAN or WAN or internet, primarily for adding records). I might be able to wrangle an internet connection between 2 of the machines, but not likely for the others.   BUT from what I'm reading, although it has never been explicitly stated, can I synchronize from a CD/disc?  This was the previous method of adding/appending data in the database (DBIII).  Replication would be nice and streamlined, but if we do not have the capability, I will likely have to use append and update QRY.(note, we're talking adding/appending 1500 records/week)Besides that, there are multiple users who want to view data (as current as possible), so I will constantly have to create new copies for them to take to their machines...

No.  See: http://trigeminal.com/usenet/usenet009.asp  Also confirmed w/our
experience of managing 100+ replica sets.  Set up Internet synchronization
instead.

I am currently researching because my company has the same
situation right now.  Is there any way that these dbs
could be brought together at all?  I think that somewhere
I read that the maximum time between replications is 1000
days.

You would definitely have to get the Replication Manager -
I believe that it is part of MS Office Developer package.
There is a distinct lack of information regarding
synchronization - as I have learned now that I have
created my replicas.

Copying/pasting, etc seems to be a subject that is
regarded as a big no-no (not supported by the Jet database
engine.)  Unfortunately, I do not see these errors that
people are talking about, and wonder if this issue was
resolved after the article specifically that I found was
published (4/29/99).  I have also found hints at being
able to synch via email.

You are allowed to copy and paste with the replication
manager.  This has to be installed on all the remote dbs -
as you have to use the manager to copy and paste - and
relocate the "replica" and it's id on the list of
synchronizers within the engine.

And I was in your shoes four months ago.  I wish you much
luck.  If you have anymore questions (I have to go do my
research) you can reach me at freakout_666@hotmail.com.

You cannot sync via email, and cannot use portable media.
