DesignMaster on USB-Stick turns to simple Replica

Hallo NG !

For our veterinary practice I have designed a frontend/backend solution with
Access2002.
To synchronise the laptops in our cars, I'm using an USB-Stick. I thought it
would be elegant to put the designmaster there, so upcoming changes in the
backend-database could be easily synchronized with the other replicas.
But when I open the designmaster, it has turned into a simple replica. Is
there an answer and a solution to this problem, because I don't know what
will happen if I keep restoring the designmaster all the time.

Thank you very much

Every replica in a set has a unique ID number. Each replica also
"knows" the computer name and folder location where it was created. If
ever the database engine detects that the replica is currently in a
different location than it *should* be, then it considers the replica
to be "new", thus creating a new ID. Moving the file from location to
location, whether it be by email, USB drive, CD, or whatever, will
always add to the list of replicas in the set and will eventually lead
to data corruption.

The lesson is: do NOT move replicas from their original location
unless using the correct tools such as the "Move Replica" command in
the Replication Manager software (which is different than conventional
Access).

Your replicas must connect to the LAN periodically to synchronize, or
you must use the tools in Replication Manager. Doing otherwise will
eventually lead to data corruption.

You can find additional information about this subject on
www.trigeminal.com

In your case, moving the Design Master will always cause it to revert
to a simple replica. Plugging the USB drive into a different computer
is equivalent to moving it. You should never move your Design Master.
