Nothing, that is how I create replicas in Access ... but
when it prompts you as to the location at where you would
like to put the replica(s) (not the design master), would
putting it directly on a laptop be wise? And would
synching from there be ok? Do my questions make any
sense? Sometimes it hard for me to explain myself.
So, are you saying that if I need to add a record/or
change data to a table don't do it using the design
master? That is should only be used for design changes
only?
Presuming that your laptops connect to the same LAN - that is precisely how
you would create the replicas - or you use Replication Manager - which I
presume that you have - to move the replicas you have already created and
thereby properly retain their identity and location.
The whole purpose of replication is to allow you to have multiple copies of
the same database - 1 synchoronization away from being identical. To
synchronize, they need to be occasionally connected via RAS, LAN, WAN or the
Internet to be able to synchronize their data. The purpose of the design
master is to allow changes to be made in the design of tables and queries,
which changes can then be propagated to other members of the replica set -
also by synchronization.
You need to get a good grasp of replication concepts and pitfalls by reading
the documentation/white papers available from Microsoft and other Access
sites - like Trigeminal's - so that you have a good handle on where you are
going with your replication plans and what you can expect as a result.

That was the one step I couldn't find in all that I've
read on the subject, creating the replica directly to the
laptop(s) (I don't have Replication Manager).
I unfortunately created the replicas, the wrong way (a
week ago), for the laptops on the network and dragged the
replica files over to the laptop (after connecting them
via network cable). They are now being used and I have to
now figure out how to get the data from the laptops
without screwing everything up. Any suggestions?
Anyways, thanks for that one thing I've been searching
for. This is my very first attempt at creating an ACCESS
application.

If these replicas were *not* opened in any way before they reached their
final destination then they should be Ok.
FWIW, I'd recommend that you start looking at Replication Manager and
indirect synchronization soon, as this is a very much safer way of synch-ing
than direct.

Please note that "ever opened" in this context is NOT "ever opened by Access
in the UI", its "ever opened by Jet in ANY WAY whatsoever".
But if the goal is to get the data, unreplicate, and start over -- then its
better to just do it. Its already to late to avoid the illegal move/copy
since it has been done. So just cooy it back, get the data out, and start
over.
