using a drop-down field for a parameter value

I want my query to use one of it's own fields as a prompt before it runs.

The field in question is a combo box, so there are 4 choices one can make
when they are entering the data on a form. When I run the query, I want the
combo box to pop up and ask me to select a choice, and then show me only
records that have that choice in that field....

Suggestions?

A combo box is not a field. It is a control. If you need to limit the data
retrieved to the choices in a combo, you will need to execute the query in
the After Update event of the combo box. Then you will need to add the
reference to the combo box in your query. In the criteria column of the
field you want to filter on:

[Forms]![MyFormName]![MyComboBoxName]
