I use Office 97 which meets all my modest needs but I'm receiving more
and more files in Works formats because it is being so widely shipped
with new pcs.
Are there any downloads available so that I can read Works files, such
as .wdb?

Thanks

I have not seen a converter program available for free. Here is a MS article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q197894.

Oddly, though they are both Microsoft database products, there is no
supported direct link between them. What I've had to do at times is to
import the Works datasheet into Excel, and then import it from Excel
into Access.

Thanks for both your replies.
I can see the work-a-rounds but unfortunately they need to be done by
the sender. As the editor of a club newsletter I receive stuff 'as-hoc'
and thought I would be 'safe' using something as ubiquitous as Office.
It looks like I'll have to post a notice to all those using Works not to
use the default format. Heigh ho.

I think I've found a solution. A free version of Quick View Plus that I
got from a mag cover reads the works file and I successfully copied and
pasted it from the viewer into Excel.

So both replies set me along the right track. Thanks Duane and John.

It looks like the cost is about $35 at
