We have a speed problem with an Access97 mde that is on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server which users access via Terminal Services. For some user's, when they launch our mde it just takes a few seconds but for others it can take up to 2 minutes. If we delete their windows user account and add them again, then it solves the problem, but gradually over time it worsens at a rate that seems to depend on how much that user uses our application. The problem is not related to the pc that they are using as the launch time for a user is the same regardless of which pc they use. We have experienced this problem on two completely seperate systems setup by different suppliers. Our application does not store data that is specific to particular windows user nor perform any actions which are specific to a windows user. If we create a new mde then this does not have a problem although we have not tested this over time
Does anyone know why is this happening
Thanks.

Gee, the fact that it slows over time...hum?
Any chance you have outlook installed...and the journal options are enabled?

How full are the hard drives on these computers? Temp files can really eat up space and slow the system. A disk cleanup could be in order.

Hi Mike,
I learnt that your users met with the performance issue when accessing an Access97 MDE via Terminal
Services. The Access97 MDE is on a Windows 2000 Advance Server and some of the users (not all)
experienced this problem.
The issue might be hard to troubleshoot, as the issue happens on two completely separate systems setup
by different suppliers. Based on my experience, there are some known performance issues when we
access the 97 database via Terminal Services.
If the front-end is on the Terminal Server and the back-end is on another server, some users might meet with
the same performance issue as your users met. To resolve this problem, we can move the back-end to the
server where Terminal Servers is running.
In addition, if you and your users install Office97 onto a Terminal Server, please read the following
Knowledge Base (KB) article and follow the instructions to suppress some known issues that may cause the
performance problem:
210231 OFF97: How to Install Office onto Terminal Server
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=210231
The above KB also documents what Albert has pointed out that users should avoid enabling the Menu
Animation feature in Office97. Enabling this feature can severely affect the system performance.
Last but not the least, please also refer to the following article to keep the Access97 database in its top
working condition:
303519 HOW TO: Keep a Jet 3.x Database in Top Working Condition
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=303519
If there is anything further we can do to assist you, please feel free to post it in the group.

Hi Mike,
I am just checking on your progress regarding the information that was sent
you.
Have you tried the steps I provided to you? I wonder how the testing is
going. If you encounter any difficulty, please do not hesitate to let me
know. Please post here and let me know the status of your issue. Without
your further information, it's very hard for me to continue with the
troubleshooting.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
