Can someone please give me the definative answer on what
the maximum number of concurrent users connecting to a MS
Access (2000) security database.
oportunistic locking seems to be the likely candidate,
however if this is turned off it is likely to affect
other databases which do not experience the problem.
thanks

Type "specifications" in help and then click on "General Specifications"
you will find that Access 2000 allows 255 concurrent users.

I have a client running 25 users with next to no problems. There are
reports of folks running 100 users.

I've actually never mucked with this setting so I'm not sure of all
the ramifications.

No....
You should be able to put the security database in a read
only folder, and allow unlimited access.
In my experience, opening an MDB and making Design Changes
may lock the security database, making it unusable until
that copy of Access is closed, releasing the security database
locks.
Try putting the security database in a read-only location:
If you make design changes, use a private copy of the security
database:
If possible, distribute private copies of the security database
to the users (update as required).
