Odd one this - A N Other consultant (whom I know and repect) has developed a
multiuser (4 or 5 simultaneous users) Access database that runs on a network
I support. "Traditional" backend front end split. (This is a "proper" SBS
2k network, not a peer to peer, by the way). ALl clients running WIndows and
Office XP.
We have had contuinual problems with speed on some machines but not all on
some queries. We have increased memory, I have even changed the NIC on one
of the machines wondering if the problem was network speed (although it
never really looks like the NICS get streteched judging by the Netwiork
Utiliation applet or whatever its called in XP so that was always unlikely)
Now it just struck me taht the machines woith problems are Celerons, and the
others where we have no problems are "full" pentiums. Has anyone ever
noticed a big difference running large queries bewteen Celerons & Pentium.
(And before you say it I know we should move this to porprer client server
using SBS SQL backend but that is not presetly an option for various
reasons).

you might check the performance FAQ on

Access version?
Service packs, jet updates, os updates?
"Speed" of celerons?

While celeron vs pentium at same speed may make a small difference, I've
found that memory makes a bigger difference....after you have made sure to
optimize the app to the maximum extent possible. Tony Toews' site has quite
a few good tips.
