Exclusive use for design changes?

At first I thought the ldb file was just not releasing, but I've managed to
get everyone out of the DB, delete the ldb so I can have exclusive use and
make some table design changes. But I am very confused by this because I've
been adding, changing and deleting tables in the back end for 2 years now,
with all sorts of users logged in, with nary a problem. Now, I get messages
saying I can't open exclusively, or I can't open a certain table and make
design changes, to try again later when no one else is using the database. I
don't remember ever seeing this message before. What gives? If it's true
that I must have exclusive use of my DB in order to add or change tables,
then when and how is one expected to do design work? I would be most
appreciative if somebody could shed some light on this for me please.

Well, you can't work on a air plane while it is flying!!!

Actually, some types of things, such as adding a new table etc are possible.

I not sure what changed, but as a developer, you need to adopt a developer
approach to this.

What this means is that you need to split your application. This will at
least give you the freedom to modify code and forms while users are using
the application. For the most part, serious stuff like modify the tables etc
is obviously not going to work while people are adding, or entering data
into he table (my gosh..how could that possible work..what happens if you
delete a field!!!!!).

I you split your database, then you can modify code, forms, reports etc
WHILE users are in the application.

I explain the split conepct here:

You're a gem, Albert. Please watch for me, I'm sure I'll be back with
further questions.

Many thanx,
