hi!

i have four computers connected to a D-Link 4-port router that also acts as a
DCHP server. the problem is that the three computers are doing 100 mbps while
the fourth computer can only do 10 mbps. If i force the forth computer to do
100 mbps, it can't communicate with the routher and can't be detected by the
other computers . All of the computers are of the same brand and
configuration and use the same kind of network cable. The only difference is
that this fourth computer's cable is thrice longer than the rest due to its
location in the building.

my problem is that i need to have this computer connected at 100 mpbs
especially since it has most of the transaction files. it almost acts as the
server.

any suggestions?

thanks, jeff

This really has nothing to do with Access.

I'd suggest asking this in a newsgroup related to networking for the
specific operating system you're using.

IIRC Ethernet has a limit of about 100 yards for the length of the
network cable.  Possible you are close to that limit or over it.   You
could consider cutting the cable in half putting ends on it and
installing a switch at that point.  The switch would in effect act as
a signal amplifier.

However this may not be the problem at all.   Before doing the above
I'd suggest bringing that computer to one of the working 100 mpbs
locations and see if it works at 100 mpbs there.
