Encrypting certain data

Hi

Using Access 2003. Split fe/be database (FE - .mde) and the database will
have security login for each user

My client requires the credit card number to be kept for a certain period of
time but for that information to be encrypted.  The user level which have
low security access obviously would not be able to see this credit card
information.  The users with a high level of security access should be able
to access this.  For obvious reasons, this information should be kept secure
anyway.

Q1: Can I encrypt a certain field of data within a table?
Q2:  Can I de-crypt it for those with high level of security access and not
allow those who don't have access to de-crypt it?
Q3: How would I go about doing this?  Any links/suggestions much
appreciated.

Cheers
Michelle

Hi,
you can try to use Access user-level security, but it not so strong. for
strong security - I would recommend encrypt using MD5 or something similar

Hi Alex

Thanks for your links. I did notice though that they relate to .net though..
I'm using Access 2003 and I need 2-way as I need to be able to get out the
information again.

Any other suggestions?

I followed the link in Alex's comment to the blog post (about more code at
www.freevbcode.com) and found this ...

I haven't looked at the code, but the description sounds promising.
