I have designed and deployed an application for a client and they are having
issues with data loss. It is a multi-user environment, approximately 5 users.

The application consists of two .MDB files. One containing all forms that
is loaded on the client workstation, and an .MDB file containing the database
tables. The Client .MDB file is linked to the other file. The database .MDB
file is located on a Windows 2000 server. I have created a shared drive.

The site has been having intermitent data loss problems with all or most
users are accessing the application. The clients were are combination of MS
Acess 2000/2003 installations. The application was using Access 2000 format.

I'm wondering if there are any known issues with Windows XP clients and
Access 2000/2003. I have deployed these types of applications in the past
and haven't had issues with data loss or corruption under Windows 2000. I
believe all workstations have the latest patches.

I appreciate any suggestions or resolutions on the issue.

Hi Sheila,
From my experience - such corruption means that network has hardware
problems - most likely bad network card(s). Best way to locate it - is to
use a switch device, which shows errors via management interface.

If you are developing the application in a2003, then I would create a mde
for the 2003 workstations.

I would also create a a2000 mde for the workstations with a2000.

If you so decide to not deploy a mde, then I would do a de-compile of the
a2003 appcation BEFORE you deploy it to a2000 workstations....

Note that if you are developing the a2000 application on a 20003 box..you
STILL want to do a de-compile before you deploy to the a2000 machines...

The binary code is not compatible. This may not be your issue...but it is
certainly something I would eliminate...

In addition, you can't have any wireless connections. I explain why a any
network problem will corrupt a mdb file here:
