Tip: Looking for answers? Try searching our database.

Access Creates 2nd copy of DB each time a 2nd user opens it.

Hi
I have a share Access XP database on a WinXP computer which is shared with
another user on a Win 98 computer using Access XP.
When the DB is open on the server computer and the other user trys to
connect from a Shortcut on their desktop or Doulble clicking the file in Win
Explorer a second copy of the DB is created with a 1 added to the name.
This does not happen if Access is opened first and then the file is selected
from Open files!!!
I have over 60 installations on other sites with all versions of access,
multiple users and OP systems and have never encountered this before.
Thanks for reading this and I hope there is an answer out there somewhere.

This could happen if there is code or macro that automatically executes to
Compact the database. "Compact on Close" could be the culprit, or code to
compact earlier in the process.

Thanks Larry, but there is no code for compacting but I will check the
default options in Access.
