I'm developing an access frontend/backend system for a small operation that
has two locations. There is a pc to be used as a server at the owner's place
of business. We want to put the backend db there and, then, enable the owner
and the other location to access it from the frontend db. The owner has
cable access at both locations and a static IP. I have limited networking
background , but I'm going to have to get this up and going. The trouble is
that I don't even know enough to enter the proper search words to find out
how to go about doing this in the simplest way possible. I'd like to have
both the big picture and the nuts and bolts. Can someone point me in a
direction? Thanks!

Check out Remote Desktop in Windows Small Business Server 2003. That is what
my partner and I use for long-distance access to computers. You'd put a
front end in a folder for each user who's connecting (run all ACCESS files
on the server, not on user's PC) to the database, and those front ends are
linked to the backend.
I am not an expert on setting these Remote Desktop connections, and you may
want to post in an appropriate Windows newsgroup for more details.

Afraid it probably won't work.
You might want to read what Albert Kallal has to say about using Access over
the WAN at http://www.members.shaw.ca/AlbertKallal/Wan/Wans.html
