Creating MDE 2000 using Access 2003

Hi,

I have Access 2003 and need to create mde 2000 files but don't have Access
2000.  Does anyone know of a third party program that can do this conversion
using Access 2003?

Thanks,

Trauton

Yes, it's called A2000.  Seriously.  You can only create an A2000 MDE
using A2000.

Hi Tony,

May be I misunderstand this, but it appears that if you have A2003 and want
to create an mde file for users having A2002 I would need to buy A2000
because the mde files created with A2003 (even if you are using the 2002/2003
format) cannot be read using A2002 - which sends me the A2000 route.  That
seems wrong.     None of my users have A2000, so if it weren't for the mde
conversion, I would never need it.  There should be a better, simpler way to
address it.  Hence I am looking for a utility that would make more sense.

Did I miss something?

That may seem wrong but that is correct.  If you create an MDE using
A2003 only A2003 can execute it.  However A2000 MDEs can be executed
in A2002 and A2003.  Also A2002 MDEs can be executed in A2003.

Such a utility does not exist.

Thank you Tony, just a bit frustrated but I do appreciate your advice!

If none of your users have Access 2000, but only Access 2002 and 2003, then
what you need is a copy of Access 2002 to generate an Access 2002 MDE, which
can be run by Access 2003, too.

Since Office XP is not the current version, you might be able to get a buy
on a copy of Pro or standalone Access at the online auction sites.

Larry,

You bring up an excellent point that I had overlooked.  I kept thinking that
I had to use A2000 (which I didn't have) but I can cerntaily use A2002 to
create the mde and sidestep the A2000 mde issue altogether.

Thank you!
