Access has started prompting one of our users for a PW everytime she
opens a Database. Any DB all DB's. But no security has been applied and
now passwords set. She just hits enter or cancel and the DB opens!
What has happened?

Her computer is joined to a workgroup file that has a password set for the
Admin user.

Use workgroup administrator (Tools, security menu in 2002; Start, Run,
wrkgadm.exe in 2000/97) to see what mdw is the default.  Then click on
'Join' and join the standard system.mdw that ships with Access - usually
located in Windows system folder.

Thanks Joan I will have a look.
I do not remember setting any passwords on this file though.

You may not have set any passwords on the file.  But perhaps the user
'played' with the settings in Tools, Security menu.

In fact, it's possible that they modified the default system.mdw workgroup
file.  If you search their computer for *.mdw and find there is only one,
then depending on version, you can:

1. If 2002, rename the system.mdw, and open Access - it will create a new
system.mdw
2. If 97/2000, copy system.mdw from another computer and put it in the
windows system folder.

Well something had changed. I checked her tools menu and found her as a
user when she was originally an Admin. I added Admin to her profile and
she is all good now.
At least until wee implement some security that is.
Thanks again Joan.
