Compile/Decompile questions

I have been trying to understand Access better and have been reading the
different help sites about performance issues. When you Decompile do you
Decompile the front end or the back end? If it is the front end does
this function effect the backend in any manner? After Decompiling do you
need to Compile?
I did not design this DB and know little about doing such things but I
am finding it a necessary part of my job now to learn about it. The
actual designer knows little more than me about it and when asked about
compiling the DB said she never knew of such a feature.

I discourage excessive decompiling as there is some risk of damage that might
not be immediately obvious.

Well ok thanks, but these pages don't address my questions on weather or
not it effects the front, the back or both.
Or weather or not she had created a DB that uses the VB code and would
require compiling or decompiling.

It affects the file that the decompile is run against, but will have no effect
on tables, queries or macros. Decompile only affects code, so any forms or
reports that contain code will be affected. When decompiling an MDB, *no* other
MDB is affected.

If the MDB contains only tables (as in a back-end data file), it has no code. If
the MDB contains forms and/or reports, it likely contains code (at least
wizard-created code related to command buttons and such), but that is not to say
that it will. If an MDB contains no code, nothing will change in the file if you
attempt to decompile it. The latter 2 web pages that I pointed you to contain
information about when to consider decompiling.

Does this answer your questions?
