When you make a new user, is that a database user or windows user?

I ask because I just tried creating a ne user and I get the error
message "Cannot update.  Database or object is read-only."

Well, if you are in Access when you follow that path, it is a database user.

Check the properties on your database file to see if it has been set to
read-only.

>From what I can tell teh read-only box when you right click the
database file and select properties is unchecked, the read-only in
File/Database Properties is unchecked.

Then you may need to check the network permissions on the file itself and or
on the folder the file is stored in.

Right now the db is stored locally in My Documents.  I created the DB.
I don't see anything permission wise on why I as the owner can't modify
it.

When you mention the Read-Only properties, are you talking about the
Database itself, or the Workgroup (by default, .MDW) file? If not the MDW,
check it -- that is what would be updated if you create a new user.

MDW?  I don't know what that is.

Ok, did some reading.  I tried the "MS Access Workgroup Administrator"
but apparently I don't have permission to create MDW files.
Lynn Trapp - 22 Dec 2004 14:31 GMT
That may be because you are not the administrator of your computer.
