Distributed Database

I have a dilema that I was hoping you guys could help with.

I have a database that I will be distributing to multiple users that are
located on all kinds of different networks. Some of them will have access
2000 and some will have XP.

I need to find a way to distribute this database file and still maintain a
workgroup file for the database. I was thinking that if I allow the users to
download a zip file that would include the latest MDB file as well as an MDW
file they could extract both files to there selected server.

The only problem that I am facing is that I do not know how to create a
shortcut that will encompass there version of Access, as well as the location
of the MDB and MDW file.

Is there any way that when opening the database I could create a shortcut
automatically ? Or even run a batch file that would create a shortcut file
for them to log into the database as well as the mdw.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

No personal experience, but I believe that the Windows Scripting Host
is capable of creating a shortcut programatically. That's where I
would start looking via Google.

Would the Auto FE Updater utility work in your situation?  I suspect
it would as it will create shortcuts automatically.

I specifically created the Auto FE Updater utility so that I could
make changes to the FE MDE as often as I wanted and be quite confident
that the next time someone went to run the app that it would pull in
the latest version.  For more info on the errors or the Auto FE
Updater utility see the free Auto FE Updater utility at

FE on each PC up to date.
