Hi,
Does anyone know why, when opening a database with shift
held down, it locks the tables for use by anyone else
with links to those tables in other databases?
Is there a way around this?
Thanks in advance
Rachel

P.S I'm using Office 2002

Interesting....I don't have an answer, but am wondering if
this could be my problem with users not being able to save
records in '97 database with linked tables.  I know of one
person who may be opening the database this way.

Rachel, I don't know if you are using a split database (tables in one db,
forms and reports in another db with links to the tables in the first db),
but using the shift key opens the database exclusively for maintenance. I
don't think this would lock the tables in the linked db, but I could be wrong.
