Programmatically determine if a DB is corrupt

Is there a way to ping a DB just to see if it is corrupted?

I'm sure there are many things that can fail and many results possible
depending upon how a DB fails. Basically, I just want a programmatic test to
see if a DB seems to be working OK.

For example, if I run a test query to retrieve a token number of rows would
that be a good test?

If I use (can I use?) automation to attempt to open a DB (then close it
again) would that return an error if the DB is corrupted? If so, how would I
trap that error and notify the user?

I would compact and repair it. If this process fails, then i would
assume it is corrupt.

Or try reading all objects in the database.

I know of no reliable way to determine whether an mdb is corrupt. Corruption
can take many forms and present different problems. There are a number of
different ways an mdb can be corrupt. I have seen cases where a compact and
repair are succesful, but corruption still existed.
