I have a datasheet form that has a text box named txtBalance.  I would like
the txtBalance default value in a new record to be the value entered in
txtBalance of the prior record.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Use the control's AfterUpdate event:

Me.txtBalance.DefaultValue = _
                        """" & Me.txtBalance.Value & """"

In the afterUpdate() event txtBalance.DefaultValue = Me!txtBalance
