macros are a bit limited in what they can accomplish compared with using vba
code instead.
If you search these discussion groups, you will find many examples using vba
code to format an excel spreadsheet.
Unfortunately, a macro is just not the correct tool to use for this.

There is one trick I have used to get there. Use a query to create your
table/records to export and add a date or some kind of identifier to another
field. Then just use condtional formating in excel to format those
rows/cells that match your date/identifier.
