Backup an Access '97 database without having to have Exclusive Access?

In Access 2003, there's a button to backup.

However, in 97 I don't see that option.

Is there a way to backup the database without having exclusive access?

It seems no matter how early I get to work, or how late I stay,
there's always someone using it.

The option you speak about in access 2003 also requires exclusive access. so
while access 2003 has that option for convenience sake, it does not get you
around the requirement to have exclusive access. If you try that backup
option with other users in the database, it will tell you that you can NOT
do it at this time, and to try again when the database becomes available
exclusue.

There's really not much you can do here, you can make a simple windows file
copy of the database, but you never know if that copy/backup is ok. We're
talking about a file based system, and the only way you can be sure that the
file or copy of data you make for your backup is intact and okay, is to
simply ensure that there are no other users in the database of the time when
you make that copy.

The limitations and restrictions of this is the same for access 97, or for
access 2003.

I have found your web page a great source of help.

Thanks very much -- I have found the MS utility LDBVIEW.EXE of great
help, and have a list now of users and their computer names so I can
contact each user (Outlook distribution list) and/or call them.
