When I go to the "available fields" while attempting to make labels, I do not
see  {address 1} or {address 2} fields to choose from.  All the other fields
are there to choose from.
Tom Wickerath - 20 Jan 2008 21:55 GMT
Are these fields present in the underlying table or query?  Sounds to me like
they are not.

Where do I look to see if the fields are present in the underlying query?

No, {address 1} and {address 2} are not listed.  All the other choices are
there like name, city, state, zip.

Are you using a table or a query as the source of records (recordset) for you
label report?  If you are using a query, have you added the {address 1} and
{address 2} fields to the QBE grid?  If you are using a table, are these
fields present in the table?

As instucted by the label making help section, I am going to the Contacts
navigation area.  Then I select contact address book.  Then I go to the
create tab and select labels.  Then I go to the area where I  make my
prototype label.  This is where I do not see the address choice in the
available fields.

Newbie,

Are you using Microsoft Access or some other program? If you are not using
MS Access, then you are posting your question to the wrong newsgroup. This
newsgroup is for Q&A related to using Microsoft Access. If you are using
Access, then you need to answer the questions I asked, which you have not
done.

Okay, how about an answer to my other question?  I will repeat this question
here:

Are you using a table or a query as the source of records (recordset) for you
label report?  If you are using a query, have you added the {address 1} and
{address 2} fields to the QBE grid?  If you are using a table, are these
fields present in the table?

I used a query.  When I view the report, the do addresses show up on the
report.

And you are sure that you are using the same query?

What is the SQL statement for your query?

Dap,

Did you create this database yourself, or did you download it from
somewhere? If you downloaded it, please provide a link and I will have a look
at it. Also, which version of Access, including service packs, are you using?

Hi Jeff,

Why would the author of this template have chosen the memo data type for an
address field???  That's just plain nuts!  Any chance of getting them to fix
this?

To Terry: You got lucky this time with a speedy reply, since Jeff (a
Microsoft employee) replied to this thread. In the future, you will very
likely get a much faster resolution to your issue if you can provide more
useful information, instead of just saying "I have the same problem...".
This includes identifying the version of Access that you are using, along
with service packs applied. Yesterday, I asked Terry if he created this
database himself, or downloaded it as a template. If you were having the same
problem, then you likely downloaded the database as a template, right? In
which case, you could have said so and provided a link. That way, other
people such as myself can quickly grab a copy of the sample and start looking
into the issue instead of just guessing what the user is or is not seeing.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Hi Tom,

This is the "standard" with all the existing templates. Any template with a
contacts or employees table will see this because they are all taken from
one "base" master template table. (Like an assembly line if you get the
picture.) The Contributors and Employees table in the Charitable
Contributions, for example, inherit the same attributes as the base tables.

> That's just plain nuts!

I'm sure you can guess my opinion. <g>

> Any chance of getting them to fix this?

Most likely not because they would have to change virtually every template
and I would surmise they're not willing to do that especially when it's an
easy change to make for the user if they so choose.

Given that this silly decision to make an address field a memo data type has
affected three people in just this thread alone ("newbie", "DAP" and
"Terry"), I can see why you've prepared a web page to address this issue.
Looks like it's going to be a very popular sticking point with many users.

Any chance of getting this fixed for the templates available in the next
release of Office 14?

Thanks,

Exactly, and I would very surprised if a KB article would be made on it so I
thought it would be prudent to make a FAQ page. (Emphasis of course on the
first letter <g>.)

I'll bring it up with the team.
