I was enjoying myself on all the rants against Steve a.k.a "PC Datahack" and was interested to read the link below, but, it appears to be dead..any info?
Before you intend to do business with him look at: http://home.tiscali.nl/arracom/whoissteve.html ; (updated)

fredg - 07 Dec 2005 22:17 GMT > Arno R: > [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > > Arno R Those are not 'rants, and believe me, none of us enjoy having to reply to him. Steve is actively soliciting business in newsgroups dedicated to free help. (See his first response to poster Fehn in the 'Calendar and time sheet' thread in this newsgroup on 12/2/2005.)
By the way, that link works fine for me. Perhaps you included the ; (updated) with the link. Try it again. http://home.tiscali.nl/arracom/whoissteve.html

jsc3489 - 08 Dec 2005 15:20 GMT rant
v. intr. To speak or write in a angry or violent manner; rave. <-- all but this?
v. tr. To utter or express with violence or extravagance: a dictator who ranted his vitriol onto a captive audience.
n. Violent or extravagant speech or writing. A speech or piece of writing that incites anger or violence: “The vast majority [of teenagers logged onto the Internet] did not encounter recipes for pipe bombs or deranged rants about white supremacy” (Daniel Okrent). Chiefly British. Wild or uproarious merriment.
Yes, I believe the correct term is 'rant'. Sort of. You may not be writing in an angry manner, but your angry having to write about it at all. As I would be.
What a troll.

Then look at the third post in this thread by the original poster. PT Barnum said "........." It looks very much like Arno R or one of his henchman have duped you!! And you continue to support and promote that conduct!!

I keep getting unwanted email sent to my office by Arno R. I'm also getting other forms of harassment at my office. Your supporting and promoting this kind of action????

Anyone with half a brain cell would see that Arno R or one of his goons posted that to post the subversive website about me. Do you approve of this in the newsgroups?
To answer your question -- No! Many MVPs do it and its done for many reasons. Just take a look through the posts and see how many aliases are used.

You don't get it!
I am an independant user who looks to these NG's for FREE help. I do not care for the low and underhanded means of your 'advertising' as many people feel as well. ' If wanted fries with that, I would have asked!'
I only mentioned the link as my interest to your behavior to 'offer services for a fee' when no one else here does. :P
Buyer beware! There is nothing wrong with 'shopping' around. If the service is lack, I move on.
I hate pushy people, and you sir, are pushy.

My ISP has changed (from tiscali to planet) and I know 'they' are working these weeks to redirect all the homepages. The link you mention however will continue to work until December 2006 I have been told. If necessary I can/will put the pages elsewhere.
Btw: I have not enjoyed all this. In fact I was getting sick and tired of it ... but I guess it's 'game over' for PCD now which is a good thing.

jsc3489 - 08 Dec 2005 18:57 GMT May I say it is an honor and privilage to receive a post by you.
I have great respect for all who devote their time and effort to help others no matter what the field. The people in these NG's especially.
I did not mean to imply you enjoyed chasing Steve. I admire your determination.
Incidentally, what happened to Steve? Did he finally just give up?

Wow! That was pretty sudden. Last I saw, only a couple of days ago it seems, he was still complaining just as annoyingly as ever about people interfering with his spamming the NGs. (Worse, he was making some apparently false claims that some other contributors here supported his mischief.) I just hope not too many NG visitors were misled by him.

I wouldn't have been nearly as annoyed with him had his sig line said something like "Visit my Web site at www.... for my suggestions on developing a database", actually post something useful on his Web site, and put his advertising there. I'd expect that he'd even get some bites that way, if the site looked good enough.

In my reader (Dutch time) I see the following last posts of Steve: -- ms.public.access.gettingstarted Dec 4 22:02 -- ms.public.accessformscoding Nov 29 01:14 -- ms.public.accesstablesdesign Nov 30 06:16 (I did not spot him in the other ms.public.access groups for quite a while)
-- In cdma 5 posts since Dec 5 (4 arguing with people, or trying to convince people, 1 new job-hunt-attempt)
So it seems indeed that he still refuses to give up his job hunting. He doesn't even know when he has lost? He doesn't even realise it's *game over*?
So we will just keep watching him. The only thing needed is a quick reply (as soon as possible) with a link to: http://home.tiscali.nl/arracom/whoissteve.html
As far as I am concerned: anyone here is allowed to show that link. We don't think that will bring Steve *a lot* of new customers from the groups ... Maybe he will quit *the game* as soon as he understands this? Maybe not? We will see.
Btw: Yesterday was a 'busy' day on that site: ==> 35 unique visitors. ==> 26 first time visitors. ==> 9 returning visitors.

CDMA is shorthand for the usenet newsgroup comp.databases.ms-access. It is a truly remarkable resource for free exchange of information on virtually any topic related to MS-Access. There are many professional consultants and many amatuers (like me) who almost invariably provide quick, friendly and mostly helpful responses to questions. (Interspersed with an occassional socially significant off topic debate, such as the proper temperature to serve beer). All are welcome.
