Can anyone suggest a good scheduling template for weekly shifts?

Ronbo - 15 Nov 2005 21:34 GMT Am looking for help in scheduling two teams of five (5) persons....7am to 3pm, and 3pm to 11pm...Mon-Sat. (Sundays off). Furthermore...of the teams of five, the team covering 3pm to 11pm would give up one to cover 11pm to 3am...
Major holidays off. (covered by On Call assignments) and minor holidays short staffing.
Any suggestions? Am tired of doing it the "way we've always done it!"
Thanks
PC Datasheet - 16 Nov 2005 01:30 GMT I have a week scheduling calendar form/report that could be adapted to do this. Send me an email.

If you can't get the help you need in the newsgroup, I can help you for a very reasonable fee. Over 1000 Access users have come to me for help. Need a month calendar or 7 day calendar? Need appointment scheduling? Need room reservations scheduling? Need employee work scheduling? Contact me!

To the OP: Beware of this guy!!
Steve just does *not* care about the newsgroups. He has *no ethics at all*. Steve *only* cares about making *money*, and he acts as if the groups are his private hunting ground.
-- He abuses this group and others for job-hunting and advertising over and over again -- He is insulting lots of people here when they ask him to stop this -- He posted as Steve, Ron, Tom, Rachel, Kathy, Kristine, Heather and ??? while asking questions (the latest 'star's': 'Access Resource' and Tom notmy@email.com and Andy) -- He tries to sell a CD ($125,--) with FREE code he gathered from these groups here -- There even has been a 'Scam-alert' about him which has been explained recently in the thread 'To all': http://groups.google.com/group/comp.databases.ms-access/msg/46038ba2954261f9?hl=en -- Also recently it became clear that he has been spamming innocent people asking questions: http://groups.google.com/group/comp.databases.ms-access/msg/4f76d0ed3e5f58ad?hl=en
So why would ANYBODY ever trust a person like him and hire him? ********************************************************

tina - 16 Nov 2005 02:25 GMT Ronbo, sorry about the inappropriate solicitation post you received in this thread. the purpose of these unmonitored newsgroups is to offer free assistance, advice, and suggestions from fellow Access developers, to answer your question(s) and help you build a better database. if you don't receive any advice or suggestions from fellow developers in this thread within a day or two, you may want to try posting again in the tablesdbdesign NG, asking for suggestions on what tables/relationships you need, and/or perhaps links to existing templates or "demo" databases to get you started. if you prefer to hire a developer to build your database, there are websites where you can look for contractors. you can find those by googling.

Where does it say this?

It strikes me as being a little scary that someone who claims to be such an all knowing and indispensable "resource" can't even operate a news reader program, and the name-calling speaks for itself.
PC Datasheet - 18 Nov 2005 02:09 GMT Doug,
You may think you are big stuff writing for Pinnacle or whoever you write for but you have lowered yourself into the gutter supporting and promoting Arno R, John Marshall and Keith Wilby. Just take a look at the worthless garbage they are polluting the newsgroups with and count the number of responses of help made by that trio of dimwits. Also keep in mind that the rules went out the window when Arno R started sending emails to my office.
As for highly respected contributors to the newsgroups, here is a list of just a few: Allen Browne Ken Snell Jim Fortune Salad Tom van Stiphout MG Foster FredG John Nurick These guys are class acts!!!! You aren't even in their league.

> These guys are class acts!!!! You aren't even in their league. Since Nov 1st, Doug has made 386 posts to the Access newsgroups. You on the other hand have only posted 85, which was mainly a combination of slander, plagarism or incorrect information.
You are definitely in a league of your own.

Keith W - 18 Nov 2005 08:58 GMT <snip self-opinionated clap-trap>
I'm not going to get involved in a statistical joust with you, it really isn't worth it. You are entitled to your opinion but as far as I'm concerned it counts for nothing here and the name-calling speaks volumes about you.
StopThisAdvertising - 18 Nov 2005 09:19 GMT > Doug, > > Also keep in mind that the > rules went out the window when Arno R started sending emails to my office. To all: Do *not* believe this lunatic accusation. Simply *not true*. **************************************************
BUT: I *did* sent ONE email indeed where PC was *asking* for it. Look at the thread: "Checkboxes and Option Groups" http://groups.google.com/group/comp.databases.ms-access/msg/bce809737152b925
In that thread I said to Steve: "If you are interested contact me and I will send you a screenshot."
Steve replied: "I am interested. I would appreciate whatever you can send me". ************************************************
So I did send a screenshot to Steve indeed in a private mail .... "Steve, As promised a screenshot, <Screenshot> If you stop your advertising you can have the code for free"
And I also replied to Steve here in the groups with the same message: "I just did send the screenshot to you. As I said in the mail: If you stop your advertising you can have the code for free !"
He did *not* answer this. So my conclusion was:
>Since I don't hear from you again, I guess your are not interested in free >code or free support? So I never have been sending email*s*. Only the ONE that he asked for. I see only ONE mail to resource@pcdatasheet in my Outbox. As I recall I was even hesitating sending Steve the screenshot because I choked on the address ("resource..." sic!!)
To Steve: So yet another false accusation! Any self-esteem left ?? ***************************************
Besides: I am *still* waiting for other answers. Coming soon Steve ???

They are highly respected contributors indeed (and there are a lot of others also).
But they are *not highly respecting you* I guess ... At least I know that some of them are not ...

PC Datasheet - 18 Nov 2005 04:19 GMT Tina,
Your failure to answer is an affirmative confirmation that you can not support the statement you made. In the future do not make statements that you can not support. This is not the way to achieve MVP status.

StopThisAdvertising - 18 Nov 2005 09:24 GMT IMO Tina is smart enough to not enter a useless discussion about the rules here with you. You just don't want to *know* the rules here.
BUT: I am *still* waiting for *your* answers Steve !! What a drag .... <sigh>

Should I put your last post in the 'helpful' pile or 'solicitation' pile when calculating your "10:1" ratio?

> Tina, > [quoted text clipped - 38 lines] >>> >>> Thanks Ed Warren - 16 Nov 2005 22:08 GMT I think you will have to 'roll your own' to get something this specific. As a start lay out in a paragraph all the 'entites'. Here is a start
I have a number of teams (currently 2) Each team is made up of a number of people (currently 5) There are a number of shifts to be covered. Each shift consists of a day, start time, end time, and required number of staff Some days are holidays and they are off but are covered by 'On Call Assignments All Sundays are holidays Some days are minor holidays and they have 'short staffing' ----not sure what the meaning of 'the team covering 3pm to 11pm will give up one to cover 11pm to 3am-- but this is yet another business rule.
Ok look for the nouns teams people shifts days workdays holidays minor holidays sundays saturdays ?? (might be just another work day) ----you may have more
Now we look for relationships
each person is assigned to one and only one team each team consists of many people (currently 5) each shift is assigned to one and only one team each team is assigned many shifts each day consists of many shifts
---- you may have more.
After you get all the: (one can roughly consider all of these the same but in places the language varies) Enties (entity-relation model); Classes (Object Oriented model); Tables (relational physical database design) and their characteristics (field types) and their relationships to other things in the model, you are almost ready to start building your database.
After you get the data structure right, you will need to build in the business logic, I think this will take some coding in Visual Basic. The same team cannot have more than one shift in a day, etc.
Then you can build your user interface.
Lots of luck.
