trying to download attachments with email but it tells me i need a fil called
xls.?

An .xls file is a Ms Excel database.  Is someone sending you a database?  If
so, you would need Excel to open it.

This newsgroup is for questions about building database fiels in the
application Microsoft Access.  The term "access" here is a program name.

You are in the wrong newsgroup.
